Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long does grooming take and how much does it cost?
A: This depends on the individual pet. Coat conditions age, temperament and style are all contributing factors. For an approximate price for your dogs groom feel free to give us a call at 810-606-0944.
Q: When should my puppy first be groomed?
A: Professional grooming should start between 8-12 weeks of age, as soon as your puppy is sufficiently vaccinated (check with your veterinarian).
Why so early? Because pups need to become accustomed to the sounds, sights and processes of a salon. The first few months of your pups life are when most of the learning (or base for learning strategies) is done and your dog has a long life of regular grooms ahead. That makes it so important to get the pup comfortable with the processes of grooming to minimize stress.
For this reason I recommend visits every 2-3 weeks for a few months and offer specially discounted puppy packages. Puppies receive special attention and treats/short play sessions during these visits. This way both you, the owner of the pet, and I , the groomer, will hopefully end up with a pet that is happy to be groomed or at least tolerates it very well.
Q: Does my pet need grooming during winter?
A: YES! Many owners don't think it is necessary to have their pets groomed during the winter, because they think it is too cold. And while you may not want them shaved or trimmed short, they still need at least bathing, brush outs, nail trimming and ear cleaning. Without this basic care many problems can arise and become expensive vet bills by spring.
Q: What vaccinations are required?
A: The only vaccination Dazzling Dogs requires is rabies, as this is a deadly disease even for humans and mandatory (for dogs) by law.
However, since a pet salon is frequented by many dogs and cats, Dazzling dogs strongly recommends that you keep your pets vaccinations up to date to protect it from disease.
Q: Will my dog be muzzled?
A: Dogs that show aggression will be muzzled if needed for their safety and ours.
Q: Will my pet be sedated?
A: NO! Dazzling Dogs does not sedate any animals in our care under any circumstances! I know many groomers advertise "No Tranquilizers" but that is really just an advertising gimmick, since a groomer may not legally sedate a pet. If your pet needs sedation, you need to make arrangements with a veterinarian and inform us about it when making an appointment.
Q: Do you give multiple pet discounts?
A: Sorry, Dazzling Dogs doesn't offer discounts for multiple pets. The same amount of work goes into each pet whether they belong to one or separate owners. (Just think about your hairdresser, dentist or mechanic; they don't give discounts for multiples either.)
Q:What are your credentials?
When I opened the salon in April of 2006 I already had years of experience in the field of grooming and also training dogs. Currently I am a member of the Companion Dog Training Club of Flint and the Wolverine Dachshund Club, and a volunteer for ATRA (Airedale Terrier Rescue & Adoption). I have also completed a course in Animal First Aid with the Red Cross.
I strive for continued education through grooming and behavioral seminars, Groomers email lists and educational exchange, and by attending dog shows.

ATTENTION!
There are many “kennel clubs” who will register anything with 4 legs regardless of heritage. Many of these registries use the same short forms as above mentioned clubs but are NOT respectable.
Even papers for a dog from above registries do not certify quality by themselves. You have to do the research to find out what issues are important in the breed you have selected, and to find a good breeder. The above Web Sites offer information on how to find and select a good breeder and the right pet.
